What's New

Staring June 30, the food service contract with Sodexo will expire, and Student Housing and Dining Services will manage all food services.

We look forward to serving you by continuing to provide award-winning dining programs. For specific changes, review the list of dining services impacted below.

Meal Plans

Starting fall quarter 2017, meal plans will be more flexible in consideration of students’ schedules.

The new meal plan model allows for unlimited access to all three of our “all you care to eat” dining commons throughout the day. The unlimited meal plans will be part of the Residence Hall contract for incoming freshmen, returning residents and first-year transfers living in Student Housing Apartments (SHA).

Three unlimited meal plan options are available:

  • 7-day plan
  • 5-day plan (Sunday through Thursday)
  • 5-day plan (Monday through Friday)

You can switch plans at the beginning of each academic quarter. For specific details, refer to the meal plan type below:

Same Costs, Better Value

New features:

  • You’ll be charged for the number of days you access the dining commons instead of the number of meals you eat.
  • Greater value: The plan costs the same as the old 150-meal plan.
  • By design, there will be no leftover meals to rollover. (The voluntary block plans will continue to rollover until used up.)
  • Since swipes will no longer be used for each meal, you’ll be able to use Aggie Cash to treat your friends and family to meals at the dining commons.
  • You’ll receive more Aggie Cash each quarter.

Aggie Cash can still be used at all of Dining Services’ retail dining outlets throughout campus and at the Coffee House.

Similar to the current rules, you’ll be permitted to leave the dining commons with an ice cream cone, baked good, fruit or a filled Student Housing and Dining Services water bottle. However, the food-to-go program will no longer exist at the dining commons.

Expanded Dining Common Hours

We’ll no longer close between meal services. Different food options will be available throughout the day. You’ll have the freedom to eat a meal or grab a quick snack when they want and not be restricted by a specific meal time.

Weekday Hours

  • Monday–Thursday: 7 a.m.–midnight
  • Friday: 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

Weekend Hours

  • Segundo and Tercero
    • Saturday: 9:30 a.m.–7 p.m.
    • Sunday: 9:30 a.m.–8 p.m.
  • Cuarto
    • Saturday: noon–7 p.m.
    • Sunday: noon–8 p.m.

Aggie Cash

You can still use your Aggie Cashat all of Dining Services' retail dining outlets throughout campus, including the markets and food trucks, and at the Coffee House.

Instead of swipes, you can use Aggie Cash to admit your family or friends to the dining commons. The new unlimited meal plans now come with more Aggie Cash per quarter. View the 2017–18 meal plans for details.

Aggie Dish

The Aggie Dish mobile app/website will be temporarily unavailable while the app is redeveloped.

University Catering will continue serving the campus as it has done in the past. After the Sodexo contract expires on June 30, you can expect an enhanced menu created by the same culinary team who has been serving you. University Catering will support all delivery options on campus.

Sodexo holds license agreements with Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr. and Pizza Hut. Those contracts will also end on June 30. This provides an opportunity to make improvements, including:

  • Moving La Crepe Bistro to the old Taco Bell platform
  • Creating a new burger brand at the Carl’s Jr. platform
  • Adding new seating areas at the Taco Bell and old La Crepe Bistro locations

The new Silo South will open with two food venues and a market in early July. Food options will include made-to-order sandwiches and pizza.

Food Trucks

A new area for food trucks has been landscaped to allow for four trucks. Other improvements include a covered seating area, bike parking and a path for travel.

Gunrock Pub

Gunrock Pub will also provide a fresh experience.

  • New restaurant menu
  • Expanded hours
  • Interior connection with Silo
  • New semi-private dining room space
  • Interior improvements to flooring, lighting and paint

The current alcohol license belongs to Sodexo. When the Sodexo contract expires on June 30, the Gunrock Pub will no longer serve alcohol. The decision to pursue an alcohol license will be based on the feedback and interest received from our patrons. Share your feedback with the Gunrock Pub managers in person or email Student Housing and Dining Services.
