Go Zero Waste

Go Zero Waste 2015 Competition

This is the time to prove which area in Student Housing is really the best. Since the annual competition has been held, Tercero has won four of the years and Cuarto for two of the years. Segundo is still looking for its first win.

Overall Scoring

Overall scores will be comprised of the scores from the Waste Reduction Challenge and all of the competitions. Half of the overall score comes from the Waste Reduction Challenge, the other half from points earned in the competitions. Remember, points are earned for attending events, participating in competitions, and winning a competition. The Go Zero Waste winner gets a special dessert in the DC and display the Clarabelle trophy in their area.

Results

  • 1st Place: Cuarto
  • 2nd Place: Tercero
  • 3rd Place: Segundo

Waste Reduction Challenge

Student Housing will be tracking landfill, recycling, and compost for the month of November, calculating overall waste diversion for each area. The area who diverts more waste compared to their areas results from last year’s competition wins the Waste Reduction Challenge. Remember: the Waste Reduction Challenge accounts for 50% of your overall Go Zero Waste score.

Food Waste Reduction

Bonus points given to the area whose Dining Commons that has the lowest waste audit numbers in November.

Photo Contest Challenge

During the month of November, share a public photo on your favorite social networking site showing how you divert waste. For example, take a picture of your reusable water bottle, an upcycled t-shirt that you turned into a scarf, or a repurposed container that you use to collect organic waste in. Include a description of your reusable/repurposed/upcycled item and the area you live in. Use #ucdavisgzw when uploading to social media. Please note that social media posts shared privately will not be entered into the contest – because we won’t be able to see them! Not on social media? Email your submission to sustainablehousing@ucdavis.edu. Each entry earns participation points. Entries must be received by November 30 at 11:59 p.m.
