Professor Thompson devoted many years to UC Davis ensuring excellence in teaching. He served as instructor, researcher, and chair of the department. He also devoted much of his time to the Work-Learn Career Planning and Placement Office (Internship and Career Center), served on the International House board for 20 years, and has been active in the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity for 60 years.
