The Residence Hall Dining Program Explained

Students who live in the residence halls receive a dining program specifically tailored to them.

Meal Plans

Residence hall residents receive meal plans that include access to the dining commons and a declining balance (debit) program called Aggie Cash. Meal plans are explained in detail on the Residence Hall Meal Plans webpage and Aggie Cash is explained on the Aggie Cash webpage.

Residence hall students, as a condition of their Residence Hall Contract, are required to have and are automatically enrolled in a meal plan. Residence hall students select which plan they want and, at scheduled times during the year, may change from one meal plan to another.

Dining Commons

Dining commons (DCs) are large, state-of-the-art facilities with dining rooms and food preparation platforms that serve a variety of dishes in an à-la-carte style system. Each residence hall area has one DC. More information is available on the Dining Commons webpage.

Residential Markets

There is a Residential Market store in each residence hall area. Markets offer an assortment of snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and candy. Go to the Residential Markets webpage for more information. Aggie Cash may be spent in residential markets and other places on campus.

Our Sustainable Program

Student Housing and Dining Services strives to be a leader among leaders with regard to sustainability practices on the UC Davis campus and throughout the University of California system, and the dining program is at the forefront of Student Housing and Dining Service’s Sustainability Initiative. To learn more about Student Housing and Dining Service’s sustainability program, refer to the Sustainability section of the website.

Dining On Campus - Outside of Housing

There are many places to eat on campus outside of the residence hall areas. Check out the Dining Locations webpage and the dining locations map to see where you can eat besides the dining commons and residential markets.
