Priority Groups and Eligibility

The following groups are eligible for Family and Graduate Housing with Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS), and apartment offers are prioritized in the following order:

  1. Students with Children
  2. Students in a Marriage or Domestic Partnership
  3. Single Graduate Students

Please note that Faculty, Staff, Post-Docs, and Visiting Scholars are not eligible to live with SHDS Family and Graduate Housing.

Application Process

  • Fill out the application completely and accurately
    • Select up to two floor plans.
    • Available lease terms:
      • August 1-July 15
      • September 1-August 15
    • Be prepared to provide the names and dates of birth for all additional occupants, as well as student ID numbers for all UC Davis students
  • Leases will be offered based on applicant priority group and date of application submission
  • Applicants will be notified if an apartment becomes available
    • Housing is not guaranteed

Documentation for Priority Groups

Documentation of family and student status is required and must be sent to studenthousing@ucdavis.edu prior to receiving a lease offer. Any falsification of documents or misrepresentation of facts is grounds for the termination of an application or lease.

Priority Group Required Documentation
Students with Children Copy of each child's birth certificate, legal guardianship, adoption or proof of pregnancy
Students in a Marriage or Domestic Partnership Copy of Marriage Certificate OR State Declaration of Domestic Partnership
Single Graduate Students All roommates must be full-time UC Davis graduate students

Lease Offers

Applicants will receive an apartment offer email if their selected apartment size becomes available, including an overview of the lease start and end dates, the monthly rent rate, the required security deposit, and any relevant deadlines. Applicants will have 2 business days to accept an apartment offer. Applicants may receive up to 2 apartment offers. If the first offer is declined, they may remain on the waitlist until another unit preference becomes available. If the second offer is declined, they will be removed from the waitlist and must reapply if they resume interest in living in SHDS Family and Graduate Housing.

Applicants who accept an apartment offer will be sent a lease agreement via DocuSign. Following the signature from the leaseholder, all additional adult occupants will receive the lease through DocuSign. All signatures must be completed within one week (7 calendar days) of receiving the lease agreement. The security deposit must be received by the Cashier's Office within a week of the lease signing deadline.

When to Apply

Incoming and current UC Davis students may apply for an apartment any time.

Prospective students are welcome to apply but must be registered UC Davis students in order to receive a lease offer and enrolled as full-time UC Davis students when the lease term begins. Applicants who submit applications without a 9-digit UC Davis student ID number must send their student ID number to studenthousing@ucdavis.edu once they have it.
