Fall 2021 Housing Move-In

Our staff here at Student Housing and Dining Services looks forward to welcoming each of our residents for the 2021-22 academic year. As we've shared in our communications with you this summer, we recognize that things will look different this fall quarter, and that includes our move-in process. The health and wellness of all campus affiliates, including you, your families and your guests, as well as our dedicated staff and volunteers, is of the utmost importance. Therefore, we will be instituting several additional health-driven requirements for move-in this fall, as introduced in our email communications this summer and further detailed below.

The information below may be updated again before fall quarter move-in so please check it frequently.

Move-In Appointments

Each student will sign up for a specific day and time for their move-in appointment. Note the dates listed above as these will be the options you can choose from.

We are striving to have move-in appointments that are staggered among all students so that no two roommates or apartment-mates move in at the same time, as well as to limit the number of people on each floor and at check-in stations.

Please Note: Students must check in during their move-in appointment. There are no after-hours or weekend check-ins.

Special Accommodations & Religious Holiday Conflicts

Students who need special accommodations and those whose check-in day conflicts with the observance of religious holidays: please do not hesitate to contact the Student Housing and Dining Services office at 530-752-2033.

Note: The UC policy regarding religious holidays that conflict with residence hall move-in days is available on the Contracts and Forms webpage, under "Additional Information".

What to Expect on Move-In Day

Arriving on Campus

Please be aware that FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES on the UC Davis campus, with the following exceptions: when students are in their rooms and when eating. Please wear your face covering to protect yourself and the people around you. Also, please remember to keep at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others on campus. When this is not possible, such as in a hallway, please proceed by the other person and do not linger.

Symptoms Survey — For Students and their Guests

Students and their guests should complete the short Daily Symptoms Survey before entering any university buildings. It only takes a couple of minutes.

Testing Before Checking In — For Students

COVID-19 screenings take place at the Aggie Extravaganza, at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC).

All students are required to go to the Aggie Extravaganza to participate in COVID-19 screening as part of the move-in process. This includes students who are vaccinated. The screening must be completed BEFORE move-in appointments.

Move in appointment times have been designated in conjunction with campus health partners and the testing timeframes that are available. All students regardless of vaccination status will be required to participate in COVID-19 screening as part of the move in process and it will be expected that you be tested on campus prior to your move in appointment. You can schedule a testing appointment online by logging into your Health-e-Messaging Portal. Instructions, information and videos are available at campusready.ucdavis.edu/testing-response/covid19-screening.

COVID-19 testing will take place in the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC). Park at the Pavilion Parking Structure and follow the signs to the ARC.. We encourage you to schedule an appointment time based on when you can reasonably arrive to campus, planning for testing (up to an hour), travel, and traffic. You are expected to arrive promptly for your move-in appointment. Additional details will be provided at a later time about the campus testing location and when to arrive for testing. NOTE: move-in appointments are displayed in 24 hour time. For example 2pm is displayed as 14:00.

COVID-19 testing location for fall quarter 2021

There is no cost associated with testing. Students who have already been tested should bring their test results to the testing location.

  • The testing process consists of providing a saliva sample. It is expected that the process will not take more than 10–15 minutes.
  • Results will be communicated to you within 24–48 hours.
  • The confidentiality of individuals with positive results will be protected, and their name and COVID-19 status will not be shared with close contacts.
  • If a student tests positive, they will be contacted by SHCS and provided with information about next steps.
  • If you have previously tested COVID-19 positive, please go to the testing kiosk at your assigned time and speak with a nurse.

You will need to arrive at the COVID Screening Site at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) one-hour before your move-in time. Please do not eat or drink anything 30 minutes before your appointment. Due to the overall scheduling, and need to keep physical distancing in place, you will not be able to test any earlier than the one hour window. Also note that you will not be able to access your residence hall until you have completed the screening test.

Once testing is completed, you can then proceed to the check-in location. You are expected to arrive promptly for your move-in appointment. Interim housing arrangements for students who miss their check-in time is the sole responsibility of the student.

Parking is being sponsored by UC Davis Transportation Services during move-in and a parking permit will not be required to park in parking lot 25 (Segundo) and 47 (Tercero) during move-in appointments.

However, you will need a parking permit to park in specially-designated unloading zones during your check-in appointment. Students will need to show their check-in appointment time to the on-site parking attendants – displaying a printed copy or using your phone is acceptable – to get a parking permit for access to special unloading zones. Parking in unloading zones is limited to 30 minutes at the residence halls and 60 minutes at The Green to minimize the amount of people at a given time. After unloading, ample parking will be available nearby.

Cuarto residents: parking is being made available to you during move-in hours at St. Martin's Episcopal Church at 640 Hawthorne Lane, and on the eastern half of the parking lot at the University Mall on Russell Blvd. Please be aware that overnight parking is not available.

Check-In Stations

Remember to complete your COVID-19 screening before going to your check-in station.

Students need to check in at their assigned check-in location (see residence area-specific move-in maps). FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN INDOORS AT ALL TIMES. Students and their families must follow all university policies regarding face coverings and physical distancing. Only students may wait in line; family members and guests may wait nearby while their students check in.

Please bring your AggieCard with you: your AggieCard will be encoded with your door access information (if applicable).

Please refer to your specific move-in map for your check-in station location.

Moving Into Your Residence Hall or Apartment

Students must move into their residence hall or apartment during their move-in appointment time slots.

We strongly recommend that you limit the number of people you bring to campus to assist with move-in. We very much appreciate everyone's help with this process.

To limit the amount of people on campus and in our residences during move-in, each resident will be limited to two guests to assist them with moving into the building. Elevators are limited to no more than 3 occupants at a time. Please be mindful not to linger when using hallways and stairwells.

Upon completion of move-in, we ask that all guests and family members leave the building to help reduce traffic. At that point, residents will not be allowed to have guests within their room for the first 5 weeks of the quarter.
