Spring 2021 Housing Move-In

Our staff here at Student Housing and Dining Services looks forward to welcoming each of our residents for the 2020-21 academic year. The health and wellness of all campus affiliates, including you, your families and your guests, as well as our dedicated staff and volunteers, is of the utmost importance. Therefore, we have instituted several health-driven requirements for move-in, as introduced in our email communications and further detailed below.

Information on this webpage may be updated again before winter quarter move-in so please check it frequently.

Move-In Appointments

Each student will sign up for a 60 minute move-in appointment on one of the check-in days listed above.

Appointments will be staggered among all students so that no two roommates or apartment-mates move in at the same time, as well as to limit the number of people on each floor and at check-in stations.

Please Note: Students must check in during their move-in appointment. There is no after-hours check-in.

What to Expect on Move-In Day

Arriving on Campus

Please be aware that FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES on the UC Davis campus, with the following exceptions: when students are in their rooms and when eating. Please wear your face covering to protect yourself and the people around you. Also, please remember to keep at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others on campus. When this is not possible, such as in a hallway, please proceed by the other person and do not linger

Testing Before Checking In

Students are required to participate in COVID-19 screening as part of the move-in process. The screening must be completed BEFORE move-in appointments.

COVID-19 testing will take place in the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC). Go to the entrance on the north side of the ARC, located near the entrance to Visitor Parking Lot 25.

COVID-19 testing location for winter quarter 2021

There is no cost associated with testing. Students who have already been tested should bring their test results to the testing location.

  • The testing process consists of providing a saliva sample. It is expected that the process will not take more than 10-15 minutes.
  • Results will be communicated to you within 24-48 hours.
  • The confidentiality of individuals with positive results will be protected, and their name and COVID-19 status will not be shared with close contacts.
  • If a student tests positive, they will be contacted by SHCS and provided with information about next steps.
  • If you choose to be tested as part of the UC Davis project, you will need to continue to be tested weekly at a testing kiosk on campus.
  • If you have previously tested COVID-19 positive, please go to the testing kiosk at your assigned time and speak with a nurse.

You will need to arrive at the COVID Screening Site at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) one-hour before your move-in time. Please do not eat or drink anything 30 minutes before your appointment. Due to the overall scheduling, and need to keep physical distancing in place, you will not be able to test any earlier than the one hour window. Also note that you will not be able to access your residence hall until you have completed the screening test or provided the on-site ARC medical team with documentation of a previous test (completed within the last 72 hours of your move-in day).

Please Note: The ARC Screening Site will be closed from 12:00pm-12:45pm each day for sanitization and resetting supplies. If your scheduled residence hall move-in appointment time is between 1:00pm-1:45pm, please arrive at the testing site at or after 12:45pm.

Once testing is completed or verified, you can then proceed to the check in location. You are expected to arrive promptly for your move-in appointment. Interim housing arrangements for students that miss their check-in time is the sole responsibility of the student.

Unloading zones will be available at the residence halls and The Green. Parking in unloading zones is limited to 30 minutes to minimize the amount of people at a given time. Afterward, parking is available nearby. Please check your specific move-in map for more information.

Please note, when parking in UC Davis campus visitor parking lots, a visitor parking permit may be required. Please refer to the UC Davis Transportation Services Parking Permits webpage for more information.

Also note, during spring quarter 2021, students living in the residence halls and The Green are eligible to purchase daily parking permits at the UC Davis Affiliate daily rates using the new ParkMobile smart parking app, which may be helpful if you move in on a weekday. Typically, campus residents are not eligible to purchase or display campus parking permits.

Check-In Stations

Remember to complete your COVID-19 screening before going to your check-in station.

Students need to check in at one of our check-in stations. FACE COVERINGS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. Check-in lines will be physically-distanced and those in line will be required to keep a minimum of 6-foot distance from others. Only students may wait in line; family members and guests may wait nearby while their students check in (please remember to wear face coverings and physically distance from others). Check-in tables will feature Plexi-glass as necessary. All interactions between students and staff will be touchless, and regular cleaning of high-traffic zones will be performed.

Please bring your AggieCard with you: your AggieCard will be encoded with your door access information. Check-in will be touchless; students will handle their own AggieCards when encoding the data. Special UC Davis move-in kits will be available for pick-up in sanitized bins. Sanitized temporary-access cards will be available for students who do not have their AggieCards (but students still need to present an ID to check in).

Please refer to your specific move-in map for your check-in station location.

Moving Into Your Residence Hall or Apartment

Students must move into their residence hall or apartment during their move-in appointment time slots.

To limit the amount of people on campus and in our residences during move-in, each resident will be limited to one guest to assist them with moving into the building. Elevators are limited to no more than 2 occupants at a time. Please be mindful not to linger when using hallways and stairwells.

Hand trucks and carts will be available in Segundo and Tercero residence hall areas. Hand trucks and carts will be sanitized after each usage.

At the Green, move in carts and materials will not be provided. Please make sure you plan ahead for unloading and moving heavy items.
