After Submitting the Application
The information below will also be in the email sent to your UC Davis email once the application is submitted.
Now that you have completed the application, it is time for your interview. Interviews will be held in a one-way interview format, also known as an asynchronous interview. A one-way video interview is where only you, the candidate, is present. We will use Box.com for you to submit your audio recording of each question.
Here is a short document of tips & tricks for doing an asynchronous interview for your preparation purposes. The interview will consist of 8 questions (listed below) and you will have 2 minutes to answer each question. You can expect to spend a minimum of 30-60 minutes preparing, recording and submitting your interview responses correctly.
How to format and submit your Audio Interview Files:
For each interview question, you will have a maximum of 2 minutes. If an answer to a question is longer than 2 minutes, we will stop evaluating at the 2-minute mark.
- It is your responsibility to keep track of your time. Ensure you provide yourself enough time to submit the quiz.
- Please submit an audio recording of your answer to each interview question.
- Record each answer separately into individual audio files to have a separate file for each of the interview questions.
- Label each file with your Student ID # and Question #, Example: 123456789, Question 1.
- Upload your files to the secure folder by clicking here.
If you need help creating audio-only recordings:
Interview Questions:
- Tell us about something you’ve learned recently that helped you better understand people with experiences or perspectives different from your own. How might you apply that understanding in your role as a Resident Assistant?
- Share an experience that demonstrates your leadership potential and personal growth. What did you learn, and how has it prepared you for the RA job?
- Reflecting on your past experiences working on a team or community setting, what is one strength that you contribute when working on a team, and what is one area you would like to improve upon?
- We want to ensure that you can be a successful student and RA. How have you prepared for weeks when you have multiple exams and have had to balance other responsibilities?
- The motto for the Residential Education Office is "Creating your Aggie Home.” Keeping our motto in mind, what are two things you will do as a RA to make students feel at home in your building?
- Conflict can arise in any community or relationship. Can you share a recent example where you successfully navigated a disagreement or misunderstanding with a roommate/suitemate or peer? How did you approach resolving it, and what did you learn that you could apply in your role as a student leader?
- As an RA, you are expected to be an academic role model. What specific actions would you take to support academic success within your community?
- As a student leader, you will help enforce the student housing and dining services policies. How would your responses differ if you had a positive, negative, or no previous relationship with the student violating the policy?
