Recruitment for Resident Assistants

The Residential Education Office (REO) is recruiting Resident Assistants (RAs) for the 2027-28 academic year. To apply for the job, please see below for additional information and application instructions.

Please note the RA job is not a work-study job and is not eligible for work-study.

What is a Resident Assistant (RA)?

The Resident Assistant (RA) is a “Casual/Restricted,” (meaning Student Assistant), part-time live-in student leader appointment within Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS). The RA assists with the growth of residents and helps create a positive community. Under the supervision of the Resident Director (RD), the RA serves as a resource to residents to help them create their Aggie home.

Who can be an RA?

  • Undergraduate students that meet our minimum eligibility requirements:
  • Maintain full-time status (minimum 12 units per quarter) as an undergraduate student with a minimum 2.2 UC cumulative grade point average (GPA).
  • Complete and pass 12 units per quarter.
  • Maintain good academic and judicial standing with the University, SHDS and the Office of Conduct and Integrity. Withdrawing from the quarter at any time, including retroactive withdrawals, is not permitted. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of this offer and/or release from employment.
  • Maintain eligibility for a housing contract in the assigned location and follow all contractual expectations for living in the assigned space.

  • Application Opening: October 19, 2026
  • Application Deadline: November 20, 2026, by 11:59 PM
  • Interview Sign-Up Deadline: December 3, 2026, by 11:59 PM
  • Current RA Second Year Application deadline: December 3, 2026, by 11:59 PM
  • Offer Letters will be emailed to UC Davis email accounts: mid to late February 2026
  • Housing Fair for selected 2027-28 RAs: March 10, 2027, Location TBD

The proposed timeline is subject to change.

Interested candidates are encouraged to consider applying to live at The Green at West Village with Student Housing & Dining Services. (Living with us now? Check out our Returning Residents Program.) If you do enter into a contract to live at The Green at West Village you will be able to cancel the housing contract if you are offered and accept the RA job offer.

Before completing the application:

  1. Attend a workshop or talk to an RA.
  2. Attend an In-person Informational Meeting: Information sessions will be held at various times in late October and the beginning of November (see the schedule below).

The application form will ask you for general information and ensure you understand the job you are applying for.

All completed applications MUST be submitted on or prior to Friday November 20, 2026, by 11:59 PM.

Any applicants that are current RAs need to apply by the extended deadline of December 3, 2026, but will NOT need to complete an interview.

After Submitting the Application

The information below will also be in the email sent to your UC Davis email once the application is submitted.

Student Housing and Dining Services will review applications, and any eligible applicant will receive an email with a scheduling link to sign up for an IN-PERSON Interview timeslot. All interviews must be scheduled by 11:59PM on December 3rd, 2026. Interviews are a maximum of 30 minutes and will be conducted by a professional SHDS staff member. All interviews will be scheduled between December 7th and December 11th (finals week).

Once you have signed up for an interview time, you will receive further instructions about the location of your interview.

Interview Tips:

  1. Visit the Career Center to sharpen your interviewing skills with mock interviews and best practices for interviewing.
  2. Do your research!
    1. Google "Resident Assistant interview questions"
    2. Read the job description(s)
    3. Talk to an RA about their experience to learn all aspects of the job (the fun & the not-so-fun)
    4. Practice your interviewing skills! Grab a friend and practice with each other!
      1. Be articulate.
      2. Provide specific examples for each response.

We will not be providing interview questions ahead of time like in past years, but we encourage all students interested to attend an information session to learn about the RA role to prepare for an interview.
