Utilities Who Supply Student Housing and Dining Services
Electricity
Residence Halls
Two different utilities supply electricity to the residence halls.
- UC Davis manages its own electrical substation to provide electricity to the residence halls and dining locations in the Segundo and Tercero residence hall areas
- PG&E supplies the electricity to the residence halls and dining locations in the Cuarto residence hall area.
What this means to you
A campus electricity shutdown will impact residence halls in Segundo and Tercero, but not residence halls in Cuarto.
A PG&E rolling blackout will impact residence halls in Cuarto but will have no impact on residence halls in Segundo and Tercero.
Apartments
List 1: UC Davis manages its own electrical substation to provide electricity to the following UC Davis and UC Davis-affiliated apartments:
- Orchard Park (coming fall 2023)
- The Baggins End Domes
- The Colleges at La Rue
- Tri-Cooperatives
List 2: PG&E supplies electricity to the following UC Davis and UC Davis-affiliated apartments:
- 8th and Wake
- The Atriums at La Rue Park
- The Green at West Village
- Primero Grove
- Russell Park
- Sol at West Village
- Solano Park Apartments
What this means to you
A campus electricity shutdown will impact residents of locations on List 1, but not residents of locations on List 2.
A PG&E rolling blackout will impact residents of locations on List 2, but not residents of locations on List 1.
Dining Services
Two different utilities supply electricity for Dining Services locations.
- UC Davis manages its own electrical substation to provide the electricity to all Dining Services locations except the Cuarto dining commons and Cuarto Market
- PG&E supplies electricity to the Cuarto dining commons and Cuarto Market
What this means to you
A campus electricity shutdown will impact all Dining Services locations except the Cuarto dining commons and Cuarto Market.
A PG&E rolling blackout will impact the Cuarto dining commons and Cuarto Market.
Gas
Residence Halls
Kearney and Laben have gas-fired dryers in the laundry room.
Apartments
Solano Park also uses gas for heat (wall heaters in each unit), hot water and the dryers in the laundry rooms. Additional information pending. Please check back later.

Heating and Cooling
Residence Halls
Segundo and Tercero
UC Davis supplies heating and cooling to residence halls in Segundo and Tercero through the Central Heating and Cooling Plant, which generates and distributes high-pressure steam, hot water, and chilled water through a district energy system to heat and cool the buildings. Electricity to run fans and other equipment is supplied by UC Davis.
Cuarto Residence Halls
Residence halls in Cuarto use electricity from PG&E to heat and cool bedrooms, bathrooms and shared living spaces.
