Shared-Interest Communities

Our Living-Learning and Shared-Interest Communities

Each living-learning and shared-interest community program is described below. Please note that descriptions of each program are general because they are different every year. The communities are successful because they are driven by the participation of their residents, which creates a dynamic and unique experience each year.

Living-learning and shared-interest communities are located in specific residence halls and floors. Locations for each community are listed in the descriptions below; however, please be aware that locations are subject to change and may be adjusted after the application deadline passes to accommodate demand.

Redwood SEED Scholars Program

In a collaborative effort between the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on campus and the UC Davis MIND Institute as part of UC Davis Health, the UC Davis Redwood SEED (Supported Education to Elevate Diversity) Scholars Program is a four-year, residential, inclusive college program for students with intellectual disabilities. Currently, only 3% of all adults with intellectual disabilities make a living wage in California. 3% That means that 97% sit on the sidelines of their life, stuck in poverty and social isolation. When young adults with an intellectual disability attend an inclusive college program, that number goes up to 65-80%! It is game changer. Our students do not earn a degree instead, our program works to support students in academic learning, independent living, social and communication skills and employment. We use undergraduate and graduate student mentors to support our students in academics, social inclusion, health and wellness, residential living, and employment. No matter what career you are considering, living and learning alongside people with intellectual disabilities will offer you learning opportunities that cannot be found anywhere else. You will develop soft skills and an understanding of disability and access that will be a huge benefit to you in the workplace. Better yet, you will grow as a human and consider disability in a deeper way. We welcome you to find out more about this Living Learning Community! This community is an invited program, placement is only open for students who are a part of the Redwood SEED Scholars program.
